My Family Have All Turned There Back On My Son. Because He Has Gotten Violent And Threatening. I Can't Do This Tough Love Thing. But He Scar

A MySchizophreniaTeam Visitor asked a question 💭

Broken out windows, set place on fire, threatening me his mom thinking I'm a clone and in order to get his real mom back he must kill me. Thinks law enforcement are responsible for everything bad in the world. Thinks his family stole all his money, millions. Goes under my home and digs holes saying I buried bodies under the house of people I've murdered. The list goes on and on.

First, it's important to understand that violence is not a core feature of schizophrenia. In fact, people with schizophrenia are 14 times more likely to be victims of violence than to cause it. However, if you're experiencing a threatening situation, your safety is the top priority.

If there's an immediate danger, contact emergency services (911) right away. Be specific when calling - explain that this is a mental health situation and that your family member has schizophrenia. Try to meet first responders outside to explain the situation. Watch for early warning signs that may indicate increasing distress:
- Hearing voices becoming more intense
- Increased paranoid feelings
- Rapid speech or pacing
- Social withdrawal
- Changes in sleep patterns

When interacting during tense moments:
- Speak in a calm, steady voice
- Use simple, clear language
- Give them physical space
- Avoid sudden movements
- Don't attempt physical intervention
- Have a phone readily available Consider working with a mental health professional to review and possibly adjust their treatment plan. Sometimes aggressive behavior can indicate that current medications aren't working effectively. Create a safety plan that includes who to contact for support and when to reach out for help. This can help reduce stress for everyone involved.

The law has been called many times. They don't help they say until he hurts himself or someone else there's nothing they can do

His verbal threats should be enough to get him into treatment, not jail! Do not let that happen! Depending where you live, laws are different everywhere. It's unbelievable, criminal really, to expect us the parents who love them, to sit by and watch our beloved turn into a scary monster and possibly hurt someone or worse, before we can get them the treatment they need and deserve. I'm sorry about your situation. 😢

My son still sits in jail waiting to see the judge again and go to a hospital for treatment. His medication s are not right and as far as I know are not even the meds. our psychologist put in there for him. We are in our 85th day now. He is scared.
