It's important to understand that trying to convince someone their beliefs aren't real usually doesn't help and may damage trust. Instead, focus on showing empathy and understanding for their feelings. Try saying something like "That sounds really overwhelming, how can I help?" or "I'm here with you when you're ready to talk about it."

The key is to communicate with kindness and respect while staying calm. Rather than arguing about their beliefs, ask how they'd like to be supported. Consider approaching the conversation as a negotiation. You might say something like: "I care about you and want to support you. How would you like me to help?" Let them know that treatment options are always available when they feel ready, but avoid pressuring them.

If you're concerned about immediate safety or notice severe distress, contact their healthcare provider for guidance. In emergency situations where there's risk of harm, don't hesitate to call 911 and explain that it's a mental health situation.

I have tried these things with her just as you have explained and she has been this way for so long without any care that she is not trying to hear anything like that she also is a methamphetamine addict and a marijuana addict. She is very intelligent and she's very sweet and loving or can be. She wants me to be her protector and I try to understand and I try to help but she gets upset with me because I can't hear what she hears or see what she sees. Now she is going his disappeared for the past 72 hours and won't talk to me. She's 44 years old very independent but also very ill she constantly talks about different people being her mother or father and talks of her children and it's very far-fetched. I have fallen in love with her but with things start going well she tends to do something or find a reason to leave or disappear. It's like she's self-sabotaging so she doesn't have to be close to me. Thank you.
